Fanmix: Your Favorite Ghost [Steve/Bucky]
Title: Your Favorite Ghost, a fanmix for tipsy_kitty based on the fic by augustbird
Author:
flightjacket
Pairing: Steve/Bucky, Steve/angst
A/N: If the cover doens't give it away, this is a mix of torch songs for Steve to angst about Bucky. And truly, there is sooooo much angst. I love this fic and how it mixes memories of pre-serum/pre-war Steve with present day Steve trying to get Bucky back. Steve is stuck in the past, hoping for a future he can't quite grasp, aching, just aching for Bucky. I love it.

These are the moments that Steve wants to forget:
Bucky's face silhouetted in the morning sun,
Bucky's smirk around the cigarettes he tried his best not to smoke,
Bucky's arm around his neck, their heads bent together,
five thousand iterations of Steve's name in Bucky's voice.
Because it hurts more than it ever made him happy.
Because if he went back in time
he would follow Bucky down all the same paths,
make all the same stupid decisions
until they were face to face
in a falling airplane,
Steve dropping his shield and calling out Bucky's name.
I. A LONG, LONG WAY FROM HOME
1. When You're A Long, Long Way From Home - Kay Starr
When you're a long long way from home
It makes you feel like you're alone
It's hard to find a pal that's true
That you can tell your troubles to
2. I'll See You Again - Vera Lynn
I'll see you again
Whenever spring breaks through again
Time may lie heavy between
But what has been
Is past forgetting
This sweet memory
Across the years will come to me
Though my world may go awry
In my heart will ever lie
Just the echo of a sigh
Goodbye
3. Solitude - Etta Jones
In my solitude you haunt me
With reveries of days gone by
In my solitude you taunt me
With memories that never die
I sit in my chair
Filled with despair
Nobody could be so sad
With gloom everywhere
I sit and I stare
I know that I'll soon go mad
In my solitude
I'm praying
Dear Lord above
Send back my love
II. I'LL BE SEEING YOU
4. I'll Be Seeing You - Jackie Gleason
I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces all day and through
In that small cafe, the park across the way
The children's carousel, the chestnut trees, the wishing well
I'll be seeing you in every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
5. I Cover The Waterfront - Margaret Whiting
Here am I
Patiently waiting
Hoping and longing
Oh how I yearn
Where are you
Are you forgetting
Do you remember
Will you return
I cover the waterfront
I'm watching the sea
Will the one I love
Be coming back to me
6. The Man I Love - Dorothy Lamour
Some day he'll come along, the man I love
And he'll be big and strong, the man I love
And when he comes my way
I'll do my best to make him stay
He'll look at me and smile, I'll understand
And in a little while, he'll take my hand
And though it seems absurd
I know we both won't say a word
...
He'll build a little home just meant for two
From which I'll never roam, who would, would you
And so, all else above
I'm waiting for the man I love
7. How High The Moon - Ella Fitzgerald
Somewhere there's music
How near, how far
Somewhere there's heaven
It's where you are
The darkest night would shine
If you would come to me soon
Until you will, how still my heart
How high the moon
III. STORMY WEATHER
8. Stormy Weather - Glenn Miller
Life is bare, gloom and misery everywhere
Stormy weather, just can't get my poor self together
I'm weary all the time, the time
So weary all the time
When he went away, the blues walked in and met me
If he stays away, old rocking chair will get me
All I do is pray the Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more
Can't go on, all I have in life is gone
Stormy weather, since my man and I ain't together
Keeps rainin' all the time
9. Love, You Didn't Do Right By Me - Peggy Lee
Love, you didn't do right by me
You planned a romance that just hadn't a chance
And I'm through
...
My one love affair didn't get anywhere from the start
To send me a Joe who had winter and snow in his heart
Wasn't smart
Love, you didn't do right by me
As they say in the song, you done me wrong
10. The Man That Got Away - Judy Garland
The night is bitter
The stars have lost their glitter
The winds grow colder
Suddenly you're older
And all because of the man that got away
No more his eager call
The writings on the wall
The dreams you dreamed have all
Gone astray
The man that won you
Has run off and undone you
That great beginning
Has seen the final inning
Don't know what happened
It's all a crazy game
No more that all-time thrill
For you've been through the mill
And never a new love will
Be the same
11. There's No You - Jo Stafford
I feel the autumn breeze
It steals cross my pillow
As soft as a will-o'-the-wisp
And in its song there is sadness because
There's no you
The lonely autumn trees
How softly they're sighing
For summer is dying they know
That in my heart there's no gladness because
There's no you
IV. WE'LL MEET AGAIN
12. Stardust - Harry James
Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely nights dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
Ah but that was long ago
Now my consolation is in the stardust of a song
13. P.S. I Love You - Billie Holiday
Dear, I thought I'd drop a line
The weather's cool, the folks are fine
I'm in bed each night at nine
P.S. I love you
Yesterday we had some rain
But all in all I can't complain
Was it dusty on the train?
P.S. I love you
...
Nothing else for me to say
And so I'll close, but by the way
Everybody's thinking of you
P.S. I love you
...
Nothing else to tell you, dear
Except each day feels like a year
Every night I'm dreaming of you
P.S. I love you
14. I See A Million People - Martha Tilton
I see a million people, but all I can see is you
I hear a million voices, but only your voice comes through
I wait for your footsteps, I've waited before
I know if it's you if you knock at my door
I know you're around by the sound of my pounding heart
I see a million faces, but what do I really see
A million little traces keep bringing you back to me
And try as I may to forget to care
What can I do if you're always there
I see a million people, but all I can see is you
15. We'll Meet Again - Benny Goodman
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
Will mirror on request. Comments are cherished.
